Glaciers and Icebergs and a Blue, Blue Sea

Dear readers and writers,

We've just decided to go up the Inland Passage of Alaska this summer, after talking about it from time to time for years.  We worry that waiting much longer will erode the glaciers too much and there may be nothing to see.   The glaciers seem to believe there is global warming; they are retreating a noticeable amount every year.

I don't know if you've seen pictures of the Inland Passage or Glacier Bay, but the azure ice rises a thousand feet above you and ice bergs split off with thunderous booms and float away.  The cold water is a deep blue, not the anemic grey-blue foamy ocean I grew up knowing from Myrtle Beach, SC or even the aqua-then-navy shading of La Jolla's beach.  It's such a deep color it's hard to photograph successfully, I've been told.  I don't know why this scenery has captured my imagination so thoroughly, but it may have something to do with the dolphin and whale games I used to play with my kids.  Anyway, this will be one for my bucket list for sure.  No doubt, it will show up in a story or poem soon.

Do you plan to go somewhere that will stimulate your imagination this summer?  I hope so!

cheers,
Laura

Hi Laura,
Yes, I am going to view my old slide collection and choose the ones to have put on CDs. That will be a trip down memory lane and I'm sure writing will happen. Enjoy Alaska! May the whales come out and the sun shine for you.

We're going to San Diego, mostly just to veg but I guess we'll take in Sea World. I want to go away but there are all kinds of time and money constraints and it's just not going to happen this year. At least SD will be relaxing!

Hi Laura,
We'll do a grandkids-tour again this year. I definitely will write about the grandkids! But some day I'd like to see those glaciers. And also Yellowstone Park, something I've always dreamed of doing.

Have a wonderful trip, Laura!

We're going to be "local tourists" this summer, visiting various places that are so close to home that we never get around to seeing them - too many family responsibilities for a long trip this year!

I'm off to see Lausanne, Switzerland this summer. My daughter is there temporarily and I have never been. The color of the Lake (Geneva or Leman) is so changeable I've never seen two photos the same color, so that will be interesting to watch.

I am going to Cambodia with some teacher friends. I like the trips with an educational aspect to them. For many years, my favorite was the one to England where I saw Tintagel, but several teachers I know have been on this one and say it's the best they have taken. I hope Cambodian food is easy for me to eat.

Wow, all of the plans sound good to me. We did a "staycation" last summer and enjoyed it, and the European and Asian trips sound good too. I'm tempted by one to Bhutan by the International Crane Foundation, but I think I need to stay home and write for most of the summer this year.

cheers,
Laura
